The teachers in my engineering classes were phenomenal. They would make sure every single student in that class was on board with it before moving on to the next topic. We did a lot of interesting projects like creating a turbine with a 3D printer. The hands-on activities made it easier for me to learn a lot of things, and I always felt I could go up to the teachers and talk to them and ask them questions.
What is a Bachelor of Science in Engineering?
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering combines mathematical, physical and computational science into a cross-disciplinary degree that prepares students for careers in engineering. Sky's the Limit
When Julio Espinosa began his engineering degree at UMHB, he wasn’t sure where it was going to take him. But along the way, he found himself drawn to computer engineering and became interested in the military defense industry. Today he’s a software engineer at Lockheed, working with system engineers and hardware engineers to deliver new capabilities and features on military jets. He says UMHB gave him the start he needed. “One thing I really enjoyed about my engineering courses was the small size of my classes,” Julio said. “I got to know my professors very well; they were always approachable and willing to meet with me outside of class. I had a great experience, and the courses prepared me to succeed in the real world after college.”

Why study Engineering at UMHB?
The BS in Engineering prepares students to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam as the first step toward professional licensure as an engineer. Graduates may certify in general engineering or sit for the exams in the more specialized areas of mechanical or electrical engineering.
Students may collaborate on research projects with a diverse group of UMHB faculty and gain experience in specialized areas of engineering as they work on projects involving photovoltaic-powered vehicles, fuel cells, autonomous quadcopters, biomedical design, and more.
