Rest
Do you ever wonder how to respond when people ask what life is like as a student development professional?
Finding the words to describe what it looks like to live out this calling of ours can be exhausting.
What a gift to be able to come together after a soul-wearying year and with colleagues who understand us to build relationships that encourage us.
Jesus promised that he gives rest to those who come to him. This does not mean a nap, though you may take one at ACSD. Jesus offers himself. When we come to him, he offers us hope that our problems will be addressed and that being with him is enough.
As we work with students, we serve as examples of people who find soul-rest in the knowledge and hope that God alone is the answer to our weariness and burdens. His promise of rest comes with his yoke. Jesus is offering the work of abiding in God and resting in his hopeful promises.
Find rest in relationship with Him, and do so in community
Jesus invites us to exchange our yokes, find rest in relationship with him, and do so in community. This conference is designed for you to be challenged and to rest as we explore what rest-work looks like.

Jonathan “JP” Pokluda is an author and Lead Pastor of Harris Creek Baptist Church in Waco, TX. He was formerly the leader of The Porch in Dallas, TX, which grew to be the largest weekly young adult gathering of its kind in the country. JP didn’t come to understand the grace of the Gospel until his early twenties after being involved in different denominational churches his entire life. This ignited a desire in him to inspire young adults to radically follow Jesus Christ and unleash them to change the world. JP's partner in ministry is Monica, his wife of seventeen years, and together they disciple their children Presley, Finley, and Weston. JP’s most recent book, Why Do I Do What I Don’t Want To Do?, highlights the importance of putting an end to the drift toward sinful vices, and turning to lifegiving virtues, which heals our soul and causes us to rest in who Christ is. His personal approach, along with the use of his own testimony, demonstrates that victory is possible and showcases God’s limitless grace.
