Christopher G. Metcalf serves as an Assistant Professor in the Physician Assistant Program. He teaches Patient Assessment and Counseling I, II, III, Clinical Disease Prevention III, and Clinical Skills. Prior to his current role, Chris served for 21 years as an Army Officer. His career began in the Army Nurse Corp where he served on the Medical/Surgical service, Emergency Medicine, and Flight Medicine / Medical Evacuation for 9 years. For 3 of those years, he trained Combat Medics after returning from a 15-month deployment to Iraq (OIF1), serving on an Airborne Forward Surgical Team. For his remaining 10 years he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, and the 1st Cavalry Division prior to his retirement in 2021. He completed his Batchelor's in the Science of Nursing (BSN) at the University of Pittsburgh in 1999, a second Batchelor's Degree of Medical Science in 2009 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), and a subsequent master's degree in Physician Assistant Science from the UNMC in 2010. His thesis was "International Roles and Acceptance of the Physician Assistant".
