Dr. Jared Hunt

Dr. Jared Hunt serves as Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he teaches applied trumpet and a range of academic courses including Brass Methods, Performance Lab, and Music Appreciation. In addition to his teaching, he contributes significantly to the department’s outreach and student engagement, acting as Associate Athletics Band Director, Chamber Music Coordinator, Collaborative Piano Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, and Faculty Advisor for the student organization CTME. He is also instrumental in recruitment, organizing events such as ArtsRush and performing across Texas with the Faculty Five, a non-traditional wind quintet he co-founded.

An active educator and performer, Dr. Hunt is the founder and co-director of the Dallas Youth Trumpet Ensemble (DYTE), established in 2018. Under his leadership, DYTE has earned first place in the High School Ensemble Division at the National Trumpet Competition three times (2019, 2022, 2024). Alumni of the ensemble have gone on to study at some of the most prestigious music programs in the country, including Juilliard, the New England Conservatory, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Baylor University.

Before joining the UMHB faculty in 2022, Dr. Hunt led a thriving private trumpet studio in Coppell, Texas, where his students consistently earned placements in Region, Area, and All-State ensembles. Notably, two of his students placed first overall in the 6A trumpet category in the state of Texas.

As a performer, Dr. Hunt has played with ensembles such as the Dallas Winds, Temple Symphony, Waco Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony, and Arizona Opera. He has performed or presented at major conferences including TMEA, the Midwest Clinic, the International Trombone Festival, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and NACWPI. He is also a performing member of the Dallas–Fort Worth-based group Center Stage Brass. Each summer, Dr. Hunt serves on faculty at the Center Stage Brass Camp and recently appeared as a guest artist at the MSU-Denver Trumpet Camp.

He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Trumpet Performance from Arizona State University, where he studied with David Hickman; a Master of Music (MM) from the University of Texas at Austin with Ray Sasaki; and a Bachelor of Music in Education (BM) from the University of Georgia, where he studied with the legendary Fred Mills.

Dr. Hunt and his wife, Rebecca, live in Woodway, Texas, with their sons, Wyatt (2) and Nathan (2 months), and their dog, Sammie. Outside of music, Dr. Hunt and his family attend Highland Baptist Church in Waco, and love exploring nature (especially the mountains whenever possible), watching college football and Major League Baseball, running, and hiking.
