Placement Testing Info
English Placement
All students accepted to UMHB will be placed into ENGL 1321, Rhetoric and Composition I. However, there are a few exceptions. If a student scores a 29 or higher on the ACT ENGLISH, or 680 on the SAT EBRW, then they will receive credit for ENGL 1321 and begin in ENGL 1322, Rhetoric and Composition II. If a student scores a 33 or higher on the ACT ENGLISH or a 740 on the SAT EBRW, they will receive credit for ENGL 1321 and ENGL 1322. All ACT and SAT scores must be submitted to UMHB through College Board to receive this credit. If a student took dual credit during high school, UMHB must receive an official college transcript from the college that the dual credit class as taken in order to receive credit. If a student took an AP test, then the student must submit those scores to UMHB through College Board in order to receive credit. View Courses and Score Requirements.
Math Placement
All degrees at UMHB will require a math course. Most degrees will require MATH 1304 or MATH 1306, which have no course requirements for entry. If your degree requires a higher math course to begin, see the below options for placement into your required course. Only one of the placement prerequisites must be met for course enrollment.
