About the Arts Academy
The UMHB Arts Academy is a non-credit program of the College of Visual & Performing Arts at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Our outstanding teachers, creative programs, and diverse learning opportunities make the UMHB Arts Academy a unique place to grow and develop as a student of the Arts. Through our belief that life-long learning significantly and positively contributes to our community, the UMHB Arts Academy offers classes, lessons, activities, and events to enhance the quality of life for all ages.
Our Fall semester is from August 17th - Nov 20th.
Art Classes
(All Art Classes are 8 week sessions.)

Acrylic Painting 101
Ages: 16+
Thursdays 5:30-7pm
This beginner-friendly acrylic painting class introduces the fundamentals of painting, including color mixing, brush techniques, composition, and creating depth and texture. No experience is needed
This class meets for 8 weeks and be held in the BCVA Drawing Studio at UMHB.
Drawing
Ages: 16+
Mondays 5:30-7pm
Ready to build your drawing skills? This beginner-friendly class covers the basics, linework, shading, perspective, proportion, and composition. No experience needed! This class meets for 8 weeks and be held in the BCVA Drawing Studio at UMHB.
Watercolor Painting
Ages:16+
Tuesdays 5:30-7pm
Ready to explore the world of watercolor? This beginner-friendly class introduces the essentials, brush techniques, color mixing, washes, layering, and creating texture. No experience needed! This class meets for 8 weeks and be held in the BCVA room 221 at UMHB.

Tiny Twirlers (Preschool Dance Class)
Ages: 3-4
Thursdays 3:30-4:30pm
Let your little one twirl, jump, and explore the joy of movement! Tiny Twirlers is a fun introductory class designed for ages 3–4 that encourages imagination, coordination, rhythm, and self-expression through age-appropriate music and movement.
Pre-Ballet and Tap
Ages: 5-6
Tuesdays 3:30-4:30pm
Pre-Ballet & Tap introduces young dancers to the foundational elements of both ballet and tap in a fun, encouraging environment. Designed for ages 5–6, this class focuses on basic ballet positions, beginning tap steps, coordination, balance, and rhythm.
Ballet I
Ages: 7-10
Mondays 5-6pm
Ballet I is designed for students ages 7–10 who are ready to begin formal ballet training. Dancers will learn foundational ballet technique, including basic positions, posture, alignment, flexibility, and balance.
Ballet II - Mondays & Ballet II Fridays
Ages: 11+
Mondays 6-7pm
or Fridays 5-6pm
Ballet II is designed for dancers ages 11 and up who are ready to build on their foundational ballet skills and continue developing their technique. All Beginners or dancers who've recently started welcome.
Intermediate Ballet
Ages: 11+
Tuesdays 4:30-6:00pm
Intermediate Ballet is designed for dancers ages 10 and up who have prior dance experience and are ready to further refine their technique. Through focused barre work, center combinations, and across-the-floor exercises, students will develop strength, flexibility, balance, artistry, and confidence. This 1.5-hour class provides more in-depth training while encouraging discipline and expressive performance skills.
Pointe
Ages: 13+
Thursdays 4:30-5:30pm
Pointe is designed for experienced ballet students ages 13 and up who have received teacher approval and demonstrated the strength, technique, and maturity required for pointe work. Dancers will focus on proper pointe technique, alignment, strength, balance, and injury prevention while continuing to develop artistry and confidence. This class provides a structured and supportive environment for students to safely advance their classical ballet training. Teen Jazz Dance
Ages: 12+
Fridays 4-5pm
Teen Jazz is an energetic and engaging dance class for students ages 12 and up. Dancers will develop jazz technique, coordination, flexibility, and performance skills while learning exciting combinations
Private Music Lessons
Days: Monday–Friday
For Ages: 7+ (Younger Students are able to do a trial lesson to see if they are ready for private lessons. It is up to the private teacher's discretion)
Each week you will have a one-on-one 30-minute lesson with your instructor here at UMHB. Longer lesson durations are available upon request. Private lessons are available for Piano, Voice, Guitar, Strings, Woodwinds, and Brass Instruments!
Group Music Classes
Kid’s Choir
Ages: 8–12
Tuesdays 6-7pm
Kids Choir is a joyful and engaging class designed for children ages 8–12 of all experience levels. Students will develop healthy singing habits, musical skills, and confidence while learning fun songs in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through group singing, music activities, and performance opportunities, students will experience the excitement of making music together and sharing their voices with others. No previous choir experience is needed, just a love of singing and a willingness to learn!
Teeny Tykes & Tunes
Ages: Infant–4 Years
Tuesdays
A fun, interactive music activity class designed for teeny tykes and their parent or caregiver. Using music education tools and faith-based songs, children will learn rhythm, pitch, listening skills, and music memory through singing, playing instruments, games, and more. Due to space limitations, the class will be for one child and caregiver. No siblings.
Ready, Set, Go!
Ages: 5-7
Tuesdays 5-5:45pm
Designed for 5-7 year olds, this activity-based class introduces students to the beginning Musical Alphabet, names of notes on the staff, keys on the piano, and rhythm. Using age-appropriate activities, this class prepares young students to move into private lessons of all kinds. Due to space limitations the class will be for student and one caregiver. No siblings.
Boomwhackers, Drums, and Xylophones, Oh My!
Ages: 8-10
Tuesdays 6-6:45pm
Boomwhackers, Drums, and Xylophones, Oh My!, is a class designed for 8–10-year-olds. Students will explore the fundamentals of music through hands-on activities, movement, and rhythm games. Using colorful Boomwhackers, percussion instruments, drums, and xylophones, students will learn essential musical concepts such as rhythm, beat, melody, note reading, listening skills, and musical teamwork. Due to space limitations the class will be for student and one caregiver. No siblings.
Musical Theater Classes (All Theater Classes are 14 weeks sessions)
Musical Theater
Ages: 12–17
Tuesdays 6-7pm
Musical Theater is a dynamic class for students ages 12 and up who love to sing, dance, and perform. Students will develop vocal and dance skills while learning music and choreography from a variety of musical theater productions.
Kid's Musical Theater
Ages: 6–11
Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm
Kids Musical Theater is a fun and engaging class for students ages 6–11 who love to sing, move, and perform. Students will learn songs and choreography inspired by musical theater while developing confidence, stage presence, teamwork, and performance skill
Adult Fitness Classes
Stretch & Tone
Ages: 16+

Stretch & Tone is a welcoming adult fitness class designed for ages 16 and up. Through a combination of stretching, low-impact conditioning, and functional movement exercises, participants will improve flexibility, strength, balance, and overall wellness. Whether you're looking to stay active, increase mobility, or support your dance and fitness goals, this class offers a supportive environment for all experience levels.
