Engineering Summer Bridge Program
The UMHB engineering summer bridge program begins students’ college careers on the right path. Incoming 1st engineering students have the opportunity to come to campus prior to welcome week for 9 days of focused preparation for engineering success. They will take part in classes and one-on-one learning experiences led by UMHB faculty that will increase math readiness and build engineering skills. In addition, peer mentors will introduce participants to UMHB campus life and guide them through the transition to college.
Benefits:
- Increased math readiness, which is the strongest indicator of success as an engineering student
- Opportunity to retake the ALEKS placement test and advance into a higher math class in their first semester. Advancement will reduce the number of credits needed for graduation and align 1st year students with the suggested 4-year schedule of classes, possibly saving them from an extra semester of college
- Enhanced understanding of basic engineering skills and experience with the tools available in the UMHB Makerspace
- Immediate connection with other UMHB engineering students (both 1st year and seasoned UMHB students)
- Early introduction to resources available on campus
Dates:
July 29th through August 6th
Activities:
Classroom instruction by UMHB faculty, peer tutoring, hands-on engineering projects, presentations from local engineering professionals, introduction sessions to campus resources, worship opportunities, discussions exploring personal calling and what it means to be an engineer, movie nights, game nights, field trips
Cost:
