Data Backup FAQs
In 2016, a campuswide centralized backup system was implemented to protect the vital information that faculty and staff store on their workstations. When functioning normally, the backup system runs silently in the background of users’ computers. This page was created to answer basic questions about the backup system.
Full-time Faculty and Staff.
The following files and folders are automatically backed up: Desktop, My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, Favorites, Firefox Profile, Chrome Bookmarks, Outlook PSTs, and Outlook Signatures.
Any file ending with the extension .iso (CD/DVD image file) or .vdi (Virtual Computer image file) will not be backed up.
All data is stored securely in the Druva inSync cloud.
Yes! All data is encrypted during the backup process, and while it is stored in the cloud.
Your information will be backed up every 4 hours and whenever you logoff, or shut down your computer.
All daily backups will be retained for 30 days, weekly backups are retained for 6 weeks, and monthly backups are retained for 12 months.
Unfortunately yes, we are licensed for 50GB per user that is put into a pool and shared across all user accounts.
Typically only your main office computer will be backed up. If you also have a laptop, it can be added as an additional device to be backed up.
Don’t fret! Contact the Help Desk for assistance. Documents from the most recent backup will be restored to your repaired or replaced computer.
